Falling Down the (Photography) Rabbit Hole

I never liked taking pictures growing up.

A roll of film could spend years lost in the so-called “junk drawer” in our kitchen, buried under a mountain of pencils, coupons and Whitesnake cassette tapes.

Hey, it was the 80’s.

But a funny thing happened a few years ago. I fell in love with photography, entirely by accident, after entering a contest I never dreamed I would actually win. My prize was a Canon 50D DSLR – a camera designed for hardcore photography enthusiasts.

Me? I was lucky I knew how to use a cardboard disposable.

I’ve come a long way in the past three and a half years. I obsess over exposure, ISO and aperture. I visit a website called “DOFMaster” to calculate depth of field and spend hours thinking about composition.

Yes, I even own a tripod.

I snapped more than 2,500 photos during the course of an amazing 2013 and I can’t wait to see what the new year brings.

So sorry, Jenn. You’re about to end up in a lot more shots.

Jenn hates being in pictures I take, except when she doesn't.

A shot I grabbed of my niece on Cape Cod. It may be my favorite picture of 2013.
